1. What does LED strip lumens per metre mean?

Lumens per metre, written as lm/m, describes the stated light output associated with one metre of the exact LED strip model under its defined conditions. It is useful for comparing product data and building an initial shortlist.

It is not the same as illuminance at a surface. A shelf or wall receives light according to the complete assembly: strip output, profile, diffuser, mounting distance, orientation, beam or diffusion, surface reflectance, operating level and surrounding light.

2. How should buyers compare lumen figures?

First align the comparison basis. Ask whether each figure refers to a bare strip or complete assembly, which CCT and CRI were used, what voltage and drive condition applied, and whether the number is nominal, typical or measured under a defined test method.

3. Do higher lumens per metre always mean a brighter installation?

No. Higher stated output can be useful when a project needs more light, but the installed result also depends on optical geometry and the surface receiving the light. A diffuser can spread or absorb output, a recessed profile can change the viewing angle, and mounting distance can change uniformity and perceived brightness.

Review output, profile, diffuser, mounting height, aiming or bend direction, surface finish and control level as one mock-up. For a retail shelf, inspect merchandise and shelf faces; for a cove, inspect the wall or ceiling transition; for signage, inspect the face and viewing distance.

4. How do lumens, watts and LED density work together?

Use lm/m and W/m as separate fields. Lumen data describes stated output; W/m describes electrical input. Comparing their relationship can help a buyer ask better questions, but a simple ratio is not a universal efficacy guarantee unless the measurement basis is aligned.
