4. When should surface-mounted downlights be considered?

Surface-mounted downlights can be shortlisted where recess depth is unavailable, the ceiling should not be cut, or a visible cylindrical or compact body belongs in the design. They still require an approved fixing base, cable entry, driver arrangement and alignment method.
